Thanks Cliff! It's certainly a contentious area and may be influenced by a number of factors. I'm working on an Older Adults resistance training Position Statement with some other clinicians and researchers, and one of my sections was interset rest duration. Gender (Grgic and Schoenfeld 2019; Grgic et al 2018a; Ratamess et al 2012), age (Bottaro et al 2010; Faigenbaum et al 2008; Grgic and Schoenfeld 2019; Theou et al 2008), co-morbidity, baseline strength levels (Davo et al 2017; Ratamess et al 2012), training intensity (Haff and Triplett, 2016; Pincivero et al 1997; Robinson et al 1995), repetition velocity (da Rosa Orsatto et al 2019; Davo et al 2017) and exercise selection (Grgic et al 2018a) have all been reported to have an important effect on optimal interset rest. Will you know when the above work is completed so you can have a look at. Cheers Sean

Great article Sean. How long you need to rest between sets depends on your goals, for the strength you should rest 120 sec, for hypertrophy 60-90 sec and for weight loss minimal rest.
